Pipe bands, can be full school bands, or a combined band formed from schools in the same local education authority.

Two x two-parted 2/4 marches or one x four-parted 2/4 march (all of own choice).
Any two x two-parted tunes in quick march time signature (i.e. 2/4, 3/4, 4/4, 6/8 or 9/8).
For non-RSPBA pipe bands a list of recommended two-parted and four-parted 2/4 marches is available from the RSPBA website – www.rspba.org – but bands may play other 2/4 marches of their own choice.

Each freestyle musical ensemble must comprise at least six players, of whom at least two must be pipers and one a snare or kit drummer (not necessarily a pipe band drummer). There is no limit to the number of players of other instruments being used.
A musical performance lasting no more than five minutes. Although technical piping/drumming proficiency will be deemed important, general musicianship skills, harmony, originality, innovation, musical interpretation, movement and presentation, musical ensemble and vitality will be particular considerations.
In order to secure your place in the Freestyle event please send a £50 cheque to the Administrator, SSPDT, 14 Albany Street, Edinburgh EH1 3QB. Your cheque will be refunded to you if you take part in the event on the day. Cheques will not be refunding to entrants who withdraw prior to, or on the day of the competition.
