The 2017 Championships take place on Sunday 12th March. Playing categories are designed to provide a forum for top level competition as well as a positive and encouraging environment for school pipe bands with minimal or no competing experience.  Entries to the 2017 Championships have now closed.

To enter a quartet requires just three pipers with an adult instructor, or four pipers. Pipe bands can enter one of seven categories ranging from Debut to Novice Juvenile A. Schools that need more players to form a quartet or a band can join forces with other schools in the same local education authority. All schools or combined schools that enter a quartet or a pipe band are eligible to enter the Freestyle competition which brings pipes, drums and other instruments together where the emphasis is on music, innovation and fun.
